  3. I agree and do believe that terrorism does more harm than good. The impacts of terrorism which includes social, political and economic is enough to put the country and its people to alot of harm. The large number of lives lost in the act, homes and buildings destroyed. All these not only cause people to lose their loved ones, also large sums of money has to be channelled to restoration works, jobs will be lost, results in the economic downfall of the country. Peace, harmony and stability of the country will be lost through the terrorist attacks. Despite all the harmful impacts of terrorism, there is still good which terrorism brings out. Terrorism allows the country and its people to be ready at all times and everyone to defend the country and not only by just relying on the army. However, the harmful impacts are still much stronger and terrorism does more harm than good.

  4. I agree that terrorism does more harm than good. Terrorists try to create panic, and also weaken confidence in the government and the political leadership of the target country. Hence, terrorism caused psychological effects that reach far beyond the impact on the immediate victim. They will do things like bombing an area or killing a political leader of the targeted country. This not only causes many lives to be lost and it brings psychological effects such as fears in people. It also effects the economy of the country as much money will have to be spent for restoration and also tourist will not come to their country as they might lost their life there. Terrorism is good as it reminds the people that they may not be always safe even if they have an army so they must always be ready for any terrorist attacks. In conclusion, terrorism does more harm than good.

  5. Terrorism will always involve civilian deaths. It is seen in the 9/11 incident, thousands of lives were lost and military was unable to defend themselves. Bombing of civilian centres or destroying the infrastructure of a society necessary for the survival and health of its people, makes it impossible for people to defend themselves. Money will be used to rebuild the live of people. Terrorist attacks cause a loss in income with citizens being jobless. It also caused the Country’s defence to weaken. Efforts and measures were introduced by individual countries, United Nations and ASEAN, such as joining hands with other countries in exchanging information and to freeze finance which is used to fund terrorism acts. However, even with measures being implemented to curb terrorism, we still see a significant number of terrorist attacks happening around the world. Terrorism allows citizens to be more alert and self-prepared in case of any crisis. Terrorism does more harm than good.

  6. I agree terrorism do more harm than good to the world. Terrorism is one of the greatest fear countries are suffering from. The devastation resulted are permanent, the particular country have to bear great consequences, some even beyond their capability. In all three areas, economical, social and political, large amount of damage is done. Thousands of lives are lost, houses destroyed and people would still be traumatized from the painful emotions within themselves. Restoration works alone need years to complete. Till all the repair work is done, economic growth would not be seen, for the country to be stable, yet another three, four years would be needed. However, from the past terrorisms, something would be learned. For example, after understanding how these terrorism occur, governments would introduce preventive measures to reduce similar events from happening. People would be more alert and gain knowledge of how to handle such situations. In conclusion, terrorism would brought about greater negative impacts.

  7. Transnational national terrorism has affected the lives of many people all over the world. Much of the impacts of terrorism is negative and has adverse effects on many. Therefore, I believe that transnational terrorism does more harm than good.
Transnational terrorism has destroyed the lives and homes of many. Due to bombings and other terrorist activities many innocent people have been killed cruelly and without cause.
Industries such as tourism are greatly affected, drastically decreasing the revenue that the government earns. This makes it difficult for the country to bounce back and many livelihoods would be at risk.
This phenomenon has, however, brought together the governments of countries and various organisations in the attempt to counter terrorism and stop their activities which are detrimental not only to a county’s economy but also to its people.
In short, the harm that transnational terrorism has on the world is, by far, greater than the good.

  9. Yes I do think that terrorism does more harm than good to the world. Terrorism happens when there is disapproval from some people towards the world. They bomb places to express their feelings and thoughts. When bombings occur, our homeland are destroyed and it would never be the same again. Many would also lose their own close kins and their source of income, such as farms and shops. At a national level, the country's economy will decline and led to its downfall. At a international level, the terrorists may infiltrated into other countries and cause more damage there. All these damage caused just to please a single terrorist? This is really a huge price to pay. Therefore, terrorism does more harm than good in my opinion.

  10. Yes terrorism has indeed caused more harm than good. Due to terrorism , thousands of lives are lost and many people living in affected areas are constantly plagued with fear. Also , terrorists usually target crowded areas or preferably business sectors - which are very important to sustain a country's economic growth. Hence when these areas are bombed , the country may face an economic uncertainty.Even though the widespread fear and panic caused by acts of terrorism breeds a desire to halt it,
leading to measures and laws imposed at border security by the government , terrorists are still able to carry out their actions to spread their intended message by harming more people , thus i conclude terrorism causes more harm than good. Divya 4e3(14)

  11. Indeed, terrorism has caused more harm than good. In addition, no one can deny the fact that terrorism caused many lives to be lost around the world. Moreover, businesses and the economy will suffer as tourists tend to stay away in fear of becoming the next target of terrorist activity and also results in a sharp decline in investments due to countries' inability to maintain strong security. This leads to people in affected countries lose faith in their government and it may result in riots or protests. Moreover, there will be more jobless people roaming on the streets. Thus, the government will be heavily threatened. Although ASEAN, UN and Singapore adopt policies to counter terrorism, terrorism will still occur. Thus, countries will have to be alert for any possible signs of terrorists to prevent their economy, social and political issues to be threatened. Therefore, terrorism causes more harm than good.

  12. Yes,I do think that terrorism does more harm than good. Due to terrorism,it cost thousands of lives lost and people who survived will still live their life with fear. After war, business sectors will be damaged, causing countries involved to face economic uncertainty. In addition, other buildings too will be damaged, as a result, millions of dollars will be lost. Few more decades, after the war, will be needed to restore the country, therefore another sum of money will be needed.
Though measures and laws are carried out to stop wars, but terrorism still appear as terrorist still have their ways to harm people, thus i think that terrorism does more harm than good.

  13. Irene: Definitely, I would say terrorism does more harm than good to a country. One of the most obvious reason for saying this is because many innocent lives are taken away as a result of this activity. Many impactful scars are also left in the country. In an aftermath of a terrorist attack, not only the country's infrastructure are badly damaged, even local industries will be disrupted. With such great chaos in the country, it sets off foreign investors from investing in the country. Thus the country's revenue will be reduced drastically, causing the country to have a harder time to recover from the attack.

I feel that terrorism does more harm than good. Terrorism takes away thousands of innocent lives, deprives the people from having peace in the country and disrupts the social life of its people as they are haunted by fear and terror every day. Next, terrorism deters foreign investors from the country which will in turn affect their political state. Terrorism will also lead to air pollution, affecting neighboring countries as pollutants are released into the air during bombing.

However, terrorism is good to the world as it serves as a reminder to countries enjoying peace, not to take their country’s stability for granted. For instance, in Singapore, all citizens must know the importance of Total Defence and as a whole we must also stay untied and resilient at all times. This will deter terrorist from attacking Singapore as they will not only be fighting against the defence force, but the entire Singapore population.

On the whole, I remain my stand that terrorism does more harm than good to the world at large.

In my opinion, terrorism does more harm than good to the world at large. Terrorism brings paranoia to everyone, as no one knows when the next act of terrorism will happen next. Of course, a little paranoia is healthy, but paranoia brought about by terrorism is just too much. Also, if not contained, many people will be injured by its acts, such as bombing.

The goal of terrorism is to create fear in as many people as possible so that the Government will have a hard time containing the terror in their citizens, thus showing the world how weak and unprepared those Governments are. This will lead to protests and possibly riots to overthrow the Government, as these people will complain that the Government is too weak to protect them from more serious events such as war.

Terrorism does not benefit anyone, not even the terrorists themselves. Sure, they may seem satisfied at the people’s fear, but in the end, the consequences of protests and riots will eventually affect them in a roundabout manner, perhaps by affecting their country’s economy.

As such, terrorism does not do any good at all, but it does harm to the world.

  16. I believe that terrorism does more harm than good. Many countries are alerted by terrorism as they were worried if they are one of the targets of the terrorist.

Terrorism destroys homes, killing people at a large scale.Countries facing bombing from the terrorists will have their economy affected and this countries would need extra money to repair the damages dealt, not forgetting the thousands of lives lost during the tragedy.

Terrorism is often motivated my one's desire for power or control and does not benefit anyone.

In all, terrorism definitely does more harm than good.

  18. Terrorism is a word that brings fear when mentioned. With terrorism on the rise, countless of innocent lives have been lost through bombings all around the world, creating political instability in countries while spreading fear and anguish all around the world.

However, if we are to look at it from another angle, it also has its benefits. With the various terrorist groups, countries work together to try to get rid of them, holding meetings like the Fifth ASEAN Regional Forum, which will allow the countries to gather together and bond at the same time. Citizens of countries are also trained both mentally and physically to be ever-ready at all times to counter terrorism.

In conclusion, I believe that terrorism does more harm than good to the world at large as losing one’s loved relative/family member can never be compared to anything else in this world and is the most painful thing that can happen to us.

  19. Not being from a country that is known to alot of terrorism, I could not image what people go through everyday and how many lives are lost due to differences in opinions. However, through the news reports on terrorism, I belive that terrorism does more harm than good.

Thousands of live are lost when terrorism strike and people live in fear not knowing when the next one will come in.Terrorists attempt not only to create panic but also to weaken confidence in the government and the political leadership of the target country.Terrorism therefore is designed to have psychological effects that reach farther beyond the impact on the immediate victims of an attack.

The terrorist violence that is on the rise today has informed citizen all over the world about different types of terrorism. The Nation's have been to do what they can to eliminate terrorism. Thus terrorism does not do any good but it brings in harm to the world.

  21. What's bad about terrorism is evident in the myriad of disadvantages it brings. Firstly, it is undeniable that many innocent lives are lost during bombs or gun-fire attacks. In fact, these casualties are the ones who contribute to the economy. When they are injured, the workforce is reduced, thus will hinder the generation of national income. Next, industries such as the tourism sectors will be severely affected as people are afraid of flying. This is especially sour for countries whom main source of income comes from tourism. In this kind of situation, the government not only have to spend money on medical assistance, they must also step in to relieve the economic hardship. All of these had to be done at the expense of the development of the country when much money is used.

However, it is also argued that terrorism has its advantage. Due to the unceasing attempts of deadly attack, people around the globe dare not take things for granted. For instance, they will practice stronger resilience so that they can protect or defend their home. It is also true that because of the presence of transnational terrorism, people and different countries are brought closer and have established good diplomatic ties to help one another when crisis strikes. This is displayed in the ASEAN's effort to manage terrorism when government of different countries come in joint effort to counter potential attacks

After much thought looking at the analysis above, it seems to me that the disadvantages terrorism brings are indeed worth more of our attention and that we should put our focus on eliminating possible attacks in the future. Hence, I would conclude that terrorism does more harm than good to the world at large.

  22. In recent years, it appears that acts of violence especially terrorism appear to be on the rise compared to a decade ago. Undoubtedly, this could be due to the fact that everybody now has access to information easily. This helps increase awareness of what is happening around the world. Some governments, such as Singapore's, have implemented measures to counter acts of terrorism. This could be through the formation of the Police MRT unit or through large scale exercises such as Northstar V. It may appear that terrorism has indeed made the citizens value the security that they have.

However, though this might seem like an advantage of terrorism, I wish to reiterate that terrorism does more harm than good. This is due to the fact that terrorism, being an act of violence, would disrupt the peace of a society. It also has the potential to cause widespread death as evidenced by the 9/11 attacks. Furthermore, terrorism causes a strain the economy of a nation as money will be used to repair the infrastructure for example. Hence, terrorism is detrimental to the development of a nation. Though there may be some who may imply that some terrorist may be considered freedom fighters, the fact is that violence begets violence. In the long run the acts of terrorism will only cause disorder and chaos not only in a nation but also in the world.

  23. I do believe that terrorism does more harm than good to the world at large. Almost every day there are terrorist attacks or incidents happening around the world for example, bombing, assassination and even hijacking of the country military. These attacks affect the people of the country socially, politically and even economically. As many people will be dead due to the bombing, tourism will also be greatly affected as people will have the mindset of that country is not safe as well as the country will lose its foreign investors due to ill maintained security in the country. Government will also have to spend lots of money on rebuilding and repairing the infrastructure. However strategies and policies are introduced to tackle terrorism for example, Singapore has establish police to patrol various MRT stations and even conduct exercise drills to prepare Singaporeans for emergency cases, but even with this strategies and policies being implemented, terrorists are still able to find their way to conduct attacks. Therefore terrorism does more harm than good.

  25. I strongly believe that terrorism bring more harm than good to the world This is because it affects the whole country's economy, environment, social and political stability. I feel that the economy impacts terrorism brings about are huge. For instance, when bombing takes place, funds needs to be generated for restoration works instead of national development. In addition, it will be worse if the country itself is poor, the country will be drained of funds. As a result, the people of the country will suffer. When terrorism takes place, the lives of the innocents will be sacrificed as well.
However, there are some positive impacts terrorism brings about. Countries are more alert and vigilant, they do so by having better security in their country. Furthermore, countries also work together as one to counter terrorism. This can be seen in the formation of ASEAN. However, the positive impacts are still not as impactful as the negative impacts terrorism brings about.

  27. Personally, I think that terrorism does more harm than good to the world at large. Terrorism can result in severe social, economic, military, environmental and even psychological impacts. Many people died and countries’ resources were drained. Inconsiderate actions like burning of oil wells would lead to environmental problems like pollution. Besides, many people even continued to experience nightmares and fear even after terrorist’ attack. Hence, the aftermath of terrorism is severe, serious and long lasting.

Other than grave consequences, terrorism can also contribute to good effects too. For instance, since countries become more aware of the impacts of terrorism, they do more to prevent similar incidences from happening. Many countries even work together to address to this issue. In the case of Singapore, not only do we work by ourselves, we even collaborate with the other ASEAN member countries and the United Nations too.

However, these measures are only used for preventing terrorism. The impacts resulted by terrorism could not be undone. The harm caused still remains. Moreover, such measures may not be 100% effective as terrorism may still occur. When this happens, we know that terrorism indeed brings in more harm than good.

  28. Terrorism indeed brings more harm than good to the world. It not only causes much destruction, it also cause may innocent life to be taken. Those who practice terrorism do not believe in the sanctity of each human life. I feel that the main cause of terrorism is due to totalitarianism. People do not tolerate the views of others and make decisions for their own benefits. This eventually causes them not being able to become leaders who would protect human rights.
After a terrorist attack, a country’s state would be in chaos. Money would have to be spent on rebuilding the country. However, even after the country is rebuilt, the people living there would not feel safe at all as they would constantly be worried of the next attack.

  29. Terrorism has inflicted terror and caused worldwide destruction. Ranging from the Taliban sparking fear in the citizens of Afghanistan to Ground Zero, I agree that terrorism has caused more harm than good. Many people have died because of terrorism and many more are affected by the harm caused by terrorism. In Afghanistan, the Taliban have forbidden girls to go to school and kill those who dare to try. They have ransacked homes upon discovering books and created serious damage to the buildings. In the aftermath of Ground Zero, many families were devastated at the loss of their family and relatives.

If terrorism can cause this much damage, then it has to be stopped at all costs. After all, there is no question that the world will suffer if terrorism is allowed to persist.

  30. I think that terrorism definitely have more disadvantages than advantages. The impacts that it created on the country and people, do more harm than good. Terrorism has four main impacts on the country; Social impact, Economic impact, Political impact and Environmental impact. I may not have experience the impact of terrorism; however from all sorts of media, I get to know how many lives had been lost due to terrorism and aftermath of the terrorism. During terrorism, many buildings and homes were destroyed, the livelihood of people was affected and many of their daily activities have been affected by it. The people that have been affected may also suffer from psychological burden. The development of the country will also be greatly affected as the capital use for development purposes will be channelled to restoration works. In addition, it may also take a period of time for the country’s economy to be back on track. Nevertheless, terrorism also helps the country to be always alert and prepare for any strikes. It also reminds that each and every person has part to play in protecting their own nation.
In conclusion, I think that terrorism does more harm than good to the world at large.

  31. Yes, I do think that terrorism causes more harm than good to the world. When the terrorists carry out destruction to scare the public, to force those in authority (the governments) to give in to their demands, thousands of innocent people die for the terrorists’ cause. Political instability can result from terrorism as people lose faith in their government’s ability to keep their country safe. The harmful effects don’t just end there. Very often, terrorists employ chemical and biological weapons that can have wide, far-reaching and devastating consequences not only on human health, but on the environment too. Large sums of money would have to be channeled into the restoration of the affected countries. Terrorism also adversely affects countries’ economies. Tourists and investors alike would fear for their safety, and refuse to visit or invest in affected countries. The result would be a loss in income for the citizens, causing even greater sufferings.

Is it worth paying such high prices in exchange for ‘freedom’, ‘religion’ and other insignificant ‘reasons’?

  32. Terrorism definitely causes greater harm than good to the world at large. It causes damage to infrastructure that took years of hard work to built; it causes the government to be unstable and had killed many people. Terrorism creates feeling of animosity and suspicion among the various ethnic and religious group believing in the country, hence, breaking the bonds between people. Even though terrorism may enable countries to work together to counter it, fear and anxiety among people around the world still could not be erased until now. It is also true that terrorism enables a country to be ready for challenges ahead but the loss is far much greater. Therefore, I believe that people would not want terrorism to occur in order to test for their preparedness or to increase their alertness.

  33. Terrorism definitely does more harm than good.
Based on our research, we can see that terrorism is the act of violent to create fear and is perpetrated for a religious, political or ideological goal. In the process of achieving their goal, they risked the lives of the targeted country's people. Terrorism often causes the people to feel traumatised. Thus, the people in the area that has recently been terrorist attacks, is usually suspicious of their surrounding, especially of different ethnic and racial groups. This psychological impact is indeed very harming since the distrust amongst the people would lead to more riots and fighting. Terrorism, in the whole, causes the peoples and governments to be stuck in distress as they are probably unaware of their next attack and who they are targeting next. This psychological unrest disallows many states to continue their everyday activities properly, not mentioning the property losses, the country's economy would definitely suffer if there was a terrorist attack.
Therefore, terrorism is something everyone is trying to avoid, and particularly the distress and psychological burden they bring along, which really does more harm than good.

  34. Terrorism will tremendously affect the country itself and neighboring countries. According to our research, we found out that terrorism will affect the economy greatly as large sum of money is being used for restoration. Tourism will also be adversely affected, resulting in less investments to the country. Terrorism will also cause the death of numerous innocent people. If they use nuclear weapons, it will also affect the neighboring countries.

However, terrorism cannot be stopped totally. Therefore, countries are cooperating with each other, for example ASEAN, to come up with measures to prevent terrorist attacks from occurring.

In conclusion, i think that terrorism does more harm than good.

  35. I do think that terrorism does more harm than good to the world at large. Terrorism in any part of the world results in severe impacts such as loss of lives, decline in economy and many more. To the terrorists, they may demand freedom or power over certain places/things, hence leading to terrorism. They may feel that they can achieve what they want through terrorism which brings them good.
At the same time, it would encourage some countries to build up their defence forces to deal with terrorism and prepare their people for times of crisis. However, this may not be beneficial.
Therefore, the harm that results from terrorism is much more serious than the advantage that it may bring to countries.

Then when the terrorist attacks, many innocent lives will be lost and destructive damage to the 'victim'(the affected country) will be resulted.
Despite that, terrorism has also become an important reminder to everyone, that staying vigilant is a part of keeping themselves and others away from risk of terrorist dangers and most important of all, is to never take a day's peace they enjoy for granted!

  37. In my opinion, I feel that terrorism is a threat that plagues many courtiers in the world. It caused and will continue to cause a chaos in the modern world. Not only does it bring upon damage to infrastructure, it also harms and claims the life of the innocent. Those who take part in acts of terrorism do not appreciate the value of each human life, being finite and precious. I feel that so extremists that practice terrorism are not able to understand that their belief is not what everyone believes in and they do not tolerate any one who is a non-believer. These practices will lead a country or race to be stereotyped as terrorist and be frowned upon by the larger community. The damage cost by terrorism must be prevented at all cause to prevent another horrible event such as the destruction of the Twin Towers in New York for ever harming humanity ever again.

  38. Terrorism is the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes. As we can see, violence is very destructive, and certainly threats can lead to violence.

How can violence be good? Violence cause many impacts in many areas: economics, social, political, environment etc.

Because of violence, people lose their homes and their loved ones. Infrastructure will be damaged and the normal lifes of people will be totally messed up.

Terrorism will worsen the economy of a country and causes political unstability. It will create fear and tension among the people, as they no longer trust the people around them for any innocent-looking person can be a terrorist.

Even though it does allow a country to mend any flaw in their defence. However, it is not worth it for people to lose their life just because there is a flaw in the coutnry's security. In my opinion, terrorism does more harm than good.

  39. Terrorism is a horrible force that drives men as a whole towards destruction. An example of such terrorist groups are the Al-Qaeda and the Shadaloo Intimidation Network (SIN). 40. I believe that terrorism, in any case, should never be supported no matter the cause.

If governments and societies give in to terrorism, they will be sending out a message to everyone that "if terror is used, you will get what you want".

What will happen then? People will start using terror to get what they want and more terrorist groups will sprout out.

If there is a just reason, I believe the groups should not resort to violence and take matters into their own hands, but instead seek help from large organizations such as the UN.

  41. Terrorism is a threat to the peace that humanity seeks to achieve in the world. Not only does it cause damage to infrastructures due to bombings, it has also claims innocent lives, men, women and children that were completely uninvolved in the conflict. In my opinion I feel that the religious extremists that practice terrorism are people that refuse to accept that beliefs vary with people and thus try to eradicate the other’s belief. These actions cause terrorists to not value the human life which are each, finite and precious. Chaos that results for terror acts cause the government money to rebuilt rather than growing the country. Worse still, these acts cause paranoia to plague the society and cause stereotyping of certain groups of people, leaving them as the target of abuse from the cyber and physical world. Thus, terrorism must be prevented at all costs and people should not blindly name groups of people as terrorists just because of who they are.
